Demo(n)s
Invocation Of Death: Vol. 1
27/09/10 || Lord K Philipson
Compilations are sooooo much fucken fun to review. Oh yeah. Hooray! These kind of discs never suck completely, oh noes, they always make you aware of fantastic bands no one ever gave a fuck about, oh yeah!!! This one is a little special though… You know why? Oh my gaaaaaawd, they decided to do something really unique and create a cassette inlay with the CDR, instead of a regular CD booklet!!! Wow!!! That’s so 2010! And it makes so much sense when you do pack it together with a goddamn CDR! Oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd!
I am so filing this under “demo(n)s” and not “reviews” where the real records end up. But as you can see in the picture to the right, it looks like they actually made real tapes (or at least one for the picture), so – kudos for that. Cool, but completely stupid. Old school, but still completely stupid. Tape decks are so 80’s.
STOOPID, I tells you.
Apart from all these nice words in the intro, at least the idiots behind this “label” has something going for them… They are Swedish. If that means all of the included bands are Swedish as well – I don’t know, I don’t care and fuck you for asking. Here’s a picture of the line-ups and shit – you make whatever you want out of it. Yeah, I uploaded it in high fucken quality too so you really can go thru it with unmatched dedication.
War Fedor!
War My Little Pony!
Goes without saying (why do one use that phrase and then still say what is supposedly unnecessary to bring up?), this is all about old school death metal. But just to be safe I’ll do my best to say “old school” as many times as possible when describing each band’s style. So…
Let’s go thru band by band then and see who suck the most, coz TEH SUCK is something I am sure we will experience during this “album’s” close-to 40 minutes running time. Oh, by the way… I am going to give each and every band on this compilation the treatment of 20 words or less. I could also have been professional enough to actually use the band’s logos before giving them their judgments, that sure would have looked cool and shit. But you know what? Won’t. Happen. We’ll work this shit like a bush league website for once, fuckladder:
Mass Death:
Shit intro. Shit vocals. Shit riffs. Shit production. Sounds old school, but unfortunately quite anonymous.
15 words and their rating is a 3/10.
Eviscerated:
Quite poor all around with yet another shit production. Old school isn’t automatically cool.
14 words and their rating is a 4/10.
Vanhelgd:
Going for the early Sunlight Studio guitar sound. At least that’s something. Dismember-ish.
12 words (13 if you count “ish “ as one) and their rating is a 4/10.
Zombiefied:
More Sunlight guitars with Dismember influences, and as a whole it’s a stinker.
13 words and their rating is a 2/10.
Abduction:
Old school bullshit that Peter Stjärnvind would love. Which means it kinda sucks.
13 words and their rating is a 3/10.
Entrapment:
This is under-produced old school garbage. I’m getting very tired of this crap.
14 words and their rating is a 3/10.
Gravehammer:
Old school absolute crap on all accounts.
7 words and their rating is a 2/10.
Decapitation:
Promising opening riff, shit sound and old school death metal that is below average with ass-vocals.
17 words (if you count “ass-vocals” as 2) and their rating is a 3/10.
Reincarnage:
Shit moniker, crap production, old school nonsense.
7 words and their rating is a 3/10.
Manipulator:
Terrible vocals, old school death metal that is in no way impressive nor good.
14 words and their rating is a 2/10.
This compilation is completely useless. If I want good old school death metal I’ll just put on “Dark recollections” by Carnage or “Into the grave” by Grave. Hell, I could even do with some terrifically produced Entombed, ofcourse. Not to mention good old Mastication. Goddamn, I need to get me some of Stockholm’s magnificent Mastication again. Haven’t heard them for fucken ages. If you guys have their recordings somewhere, make sure to hand me a copy, ok?
Bottom line: None of these bands on this compilation even come close to what the originators created back in the day. But thanx for trying, even though you all pretty much fucken blow at it.
